Radio Polarimetry Results for Young Southern Pulsars
We present radio polarimetry results for nine Southern pulsars. Six of the nine are young, with characteristic ages less than 100 kyr and high spin-down luminosities. All six show significant linear polarization, and we confirm a previously noticed trend in which the degree of linear polarization increases with spin-down luminosity. We have used the rotating vector model to fit the observed pos...
متن کاملCoherently-Dedispersed Polarimetry of Millisecond Pulsars
We present a large sample of high-precision, coherently-dedispersed polarization profiles of millisecond pulsars at frequencies between 410MHz and 1414MHz. These data include the first polarimetric observations of several of the pulsars, and the first low-frequency polarization profiles for others. Our observations support previous suggestions that the pulse shapes and polarimetry of MSPs are m...
متن کاملKinematics of Radio Pulsars
A very good fraction of stars in the sky are believed to be in binary (or multiple) systems. Therefore, we expect a good fraction of pulsars to have originated in binary systems. However, observations of pulsars have shown that most of the pulsars are not in binary system now. This would imply that these pulsars must have become solitary after the disruption of their progenitor binary system du...
متن کاملEnergetic Young Radio Pulsars
Young radio pulsars shed vast amounts of rotational energy, sometimes as high as 100,000 times the total energy loss rate from the sun. The wide range of phenomena resulting from this energy loss include: glitches, timing noise, jets, bow shocks, bullets and plerions and are be reviewed from an observational perspective. Past and proposed surveys for young radio pulsars are summarised along wit...
متن کاملJets from Radio Pulsars
The observational evidence for jets and phenomena arising from rotation powered radio pulsars is reviewed, including many recent and exciting discoveries at X-ray wavelengths. The well studied jets of the Crab pulsar are summarised, including recent results from the HST. The evolutionary links between the known binary radio pulsars and jets sources in X-ray binaries are discussed.
